TURNING AWAY SHE went in the bedroom and stood in the dim light watching her man sleep, his red hair now shiny white, lines crisscrossed his face. And having prayed in anguish, in self recrimination over her dark secret she had been extra patient when at times in years past he blew up over his heavy responsibilities as Branch Manager of Westlake’s B of P or when his roving eye went after some new face that crossed his path. Etienne in appreciation had turned mellow, caring. They had celebrated a second honeymoon, just five years ago with their children and grandchildren.Their love making had been passionate that evening. She laid down next to her husband, propped herself on one elbow. As she watched him the images flooded her. Ghosts. Faces that had become alien to her. Memories of long ago that had become unreal, that followed her around often ready to overshadow her sunlight to……………….
