Foster’s chain of cafeterias were all over San Francisco. Foster’s at Seventh and Market never closed which was most welcomed by Greyhound passengers that arrived at the nearby terminal at all hours, day and night. Mimi getting off the streetcar would be greeted by music blaring from loud speakers of nearby record stores, Kay Starr singing Wheel of Fortune, Jo Stafford You belong to me, Nat King Cole Mona Lisa. The cafeteria’s wall to wall windows looked out onto the street. Customers found a festive atmosphere inside where orders were shouted in sing-song, 1 CHICKEN SOUP. 1 PEA SOUP. 1 BEEF STEW. Clever word play was practiced: HOLD THAT CHICKEN AND MAKE IT PEA! A shining glass counter welcomed them filled with appetizing dishes of colorful desserts, fresh cut fruits arranged to please the eye. Tall glasses filled with small squares of Jello shining like jewels, huge emeralds, rubies, topazes. Meats in platters garnished with fresh sprigs of parsley circled with vegetables of alternating colors.

I was elated. I remembered the reporter. a gentle spoken woman who had taken my statement. I read the article eagerly: my name was mispelled, and no. I don't live in San Francisco.

Oh, well! I kidded my friends, when you become famous, you know ... ? it's out of your hands.

A second clipping arrived, from Brian,in Modesto. The same two mistakes, please. I never said:   When there is a war we talk about our girl friends ....

Come on ...

Then Tereza,of the Blue Monkey, greeted me with a cheerful: I have the article. Besides all the other missquotes it said: I had lived in San Francsisco for a year.

Oh man!

Went home and reviewed them all.What to do? I don't know. Uhmmmmmm. One single truth was in all of them, I had told her that I like to use the word poetess to desecribe myself. All three articles contained the word poetess.

So….. Who's complaining?

MIMI AND ETIENNE liked the movies. He immersed himself in them analyzed them, delivery of lines, lights, plot, how actors, actresses moved. Mimi listened delighted. You have Ava Gardner’s shoulders he murmured. The Fox Theater on Market Street splendid, elegant with an organ that was renowned around the world was their favorite. They went there most Friday nights with Lorena and Teddy in their brand new Nash Rambler which they lovingly washed and waxed every Saturday morning.
